It is Asin’s birthday today
Asin, the most beloved actress of the South, celebrates her birthday today. She will celebrate this birthday with extra energy and enthusiasm because she is on the verge of achieving super stardom – her much-touted Hindi version of Ghajini will release on 28th November.
Even before its release, she has become quite a sensation in Bollywood and the whole of Northern India is waiting eagerly for Ghajini’s release! Their eagerness about her has grown manifold following her brief appearances in many ads splashed all over the northern cities and TV channels.
Asin has scaled great heights in a short span of time. She started her film career with Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in Malayalam, but it was her next film in Telugu, Amma Naana Oka Tamil Amaayi, that made her a household name. Through this Telugu film, news about her work, acting skills, and beauty reached all the corners of the South. Soon Kollywood beckoned. It remade Amma Naana… into M. Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi; Asin reprised her role convincingly and walked into the hearts of every Tamil. Kollywood became besotted with this actress – it almost wanted her to act in every film it made! Everyone was enamoured by her beauty, energy and chirpiness.
Then came a milestone in her career – Ghajini. Murugadoss knew very well that this girl would set new standards in the industry and Asin proved him right. It was a huge success and Asin was an inseparable component of that success story. The season after Ghajini saw her act with all the top heroes of Kollywood and she even became a widely discussed name in the rest of India. The surprising fact is that her fan base stretched to include even little kids whose attention is normally riveted on the hero, his style and stunts! She has only added to her fan base after Dasavatharam, her beautiful eyes depicting mischievousness, vulnerability, and serenity. There is definitely something about her that makes everyone go crazy!
With every film she did, Asin became the heartthrob of the entire South – so much so that there was a gloom when she went to Bollywood to act in the remake of Ghajini. But her fans’ fears were allayed with her assurance that she will never quit southern film industry. Now, talks in Kollywood about her comeback to Vijay’s 50th film has given it a new sheen and cheerfulness – her return would be like Kollywood’s spring.
Asin, who has bagged London Dreams (starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan) well before the release of Ghajini (Hindi), is definitely on the road less traveled by South Indian actresses which leads to Bollywood super stardom; only a few southies like Sridevi and Hema Malini have achieved it so far. She is also acting in The 19th step, which will give her international acclaim; directed by Bharat Bala, this film, about the martial art Kalari Payattu’s journey to Oriental countries, also stars Kamal Haasan and renowned Japanese actor Tadanobu.
