Janaki receives first P. Suseela National Award
P. Suseela has started a trust which will recognize outstanding artists of film music and will lend a helping hand to impoverished artists.
The first award from this trust has been given to S. Janaki, the renowned playback singer who has sung over 40,000 songs in various South Indian languages. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. one lac and a citation.
Speaking on this, P. Suseela said that this award is her way of paying back to the film industry. She added that every year on November 13th (her birthday), artists from music industry all across the nation will be honoured with awards.
The awardees will be selected by a jury comprising Vairamuthu, playback singer Balasaraswathi and actress Jamuna. Renowned music director M.S. Vishwanathan will head this jury.
During this briefing, M.S. Vishwanathan, Vairamuthu and the trust’s director Sanjay Kishore were also present with P. Suseela.
