Director Mysskin has been one such film historian who easily copies the motifs from international flicks that isn’t under the public glare. Of course, there are times where we aren’t even able to pick those original films from where he got deeply inspired for his previous two films.

Now with his Nandhalala slated to hit the screens for Pongal, it has been revealed that it’s a film loosely based on a Japanese Film titled ‘Kikujiro’ ( Kikujirō no Natsu), a Japanese film starring, written, and directed by Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano. Its score was composed by Joe Hisaishi

Kikujiro tells the story of a young boy searching for his mother during his summer vacation. The film is mostly divided into smaller chapters, listed as entries in the boy’s summer vacation diary. Kitano’s inspiration for the character (not the film) was his own father, Kikujiro Kitano, a gambler who struggled to feed his family and pay the rent.
