S. Varalakshmi passes away

Popular yesteryear actress S. Varalakshmi (84) passed away in a hospital in Chennai on Tuesday night. She is survived by her producer husband A.L. Srinivasan, one son and one daughter.

Varalakshmi never recovered from a fall six months ago which resulted in a fracture rendered her bedridden.

Known for her dialogue delivery and the ability to carry a movie on her shoulders, Varalakshmi was a connoisseur’s delight. Her acting prowess in Rajaraja Chozhan, Panama Pasama, Needikku Thalai Vanangu and Mattukara Velan, to name a few, is still remembered with awe.
