Anjali stumps Ameer with her acting prowess

Anjali has become one of the most talked-about actresses in recent times. The actress, who recently won the Filmfare award for ‘best actress’ for her mind-blowing performance in last year’s Angaadi Theru directed by Vasanthabalan, has been choosing her films consciously so that she can be remembered by the movie-goers as an actress of substance rather than as a ‘glamourous’ actress.

If the script is good, Anjali doesn’t mind even working opposite newcomers, as was the case in Karungali and Magizhchi. With back-to-back successes in Ajith’s Mankatha and debutant director Saravanan’s Engeyum Eppodhum, Anjali has become a ‘darling’ of directors who look for actresses who are capable of taking on any roles and do full justice to them. The fact that she dubs in her own voice is a great plus for Anjali.

Born in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, Anjali is more than fluent in Tamil and makes full use of her expressive face and wide eyes. She has some plum projects in her kitty and is awaiting the release of Vasanthabalan’s Aravaan where she has done a brief yet significant role and Thambi Vettothi Sundaram opposite Karan. No wonder that her acting prowess has caught the attention of director-actor Ameer.

Ameer, who is presently making Aadhibagawan with ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Neetu Chandra in lead roles, says “Anjali is the only actress among the present generation of actresses who speaks Tamil fluently besides displaying intelligent and practical ‘acting’ befitting the characters she plays in films. She is not so adamant that she would only be pairing up opposite big heroes, which is a welcome feature. Such a determination is not even seen in the attitudes of many frontlines actresses,” concludes Ameer.
