Vijay is happy with the success of Velayudham

The year 2011 has turned out to be an extremely lucky year for Ilayathalapathy Vijay. The actor, who didn’t have a successful few years from 2006-2010 where many of his films failed to live upto expectations, had his Kaavalan opposite Asin releasing early this year amid heavy ‘political’ opposition from the erstwhile regime in the State.

Kaavalan, a remake of the Malayalam super-hit film Bodyguard, ran successfully at all centres, breaking Vijay’s spell of lean films for the past few years. The film’s success also put him back in the reckoning to be courted by leading directors and producers. After the success of Kaavalan, Vijay signed up director Shankar’s Nanban (another remake film, though), which provided him the first opportunity to star in a film by Shankar.

He is also set to star in AR Murugadoss’s next film and has also committed to do a film for Gautham Menon by the commencement of the ensuing year. Vijay has expressed his delight that his Deepavali release Velayudham has been running successfully at all the centres all over the State and elsewhere. He has also opined that remaking successful films from other languages is a ‘healthy’ trend.

“I consider ‘remakes’ as a healthy trend; in fact, I’d love to do more films like Nanban, a remake of the Bollywood super-hit 3 Idiots. Nanban is sure to delight my fans and movie-goers as it gets the ‘Shankar’ treatment. I’m very happy about the success of Velayudham and would continue to do many more commercial ventures which are ‘treated’ differently by the directors,” says Vijay.
