Websites banned to screen Dhanush’s 3
Acting in a petition filed with it, the Chennai High Court has stayed the ‘release’ of actor Dhanush’s upcoming film 3 on the Internet and in film-based websites. 3, which has aroused unprecedented curiosity and excitement thanks to the super-hit song Why this Kolaveri di…. hits the screens today in its Tamil, Hindi and Telugu vesions.
Dhanush’s wife Aishwarya makes her directorial debut with the film, which has her ‘best friend’ Shruti Haasan (daughter of Kamal Haasan) pairing up opposite Dhanush. Dhanush-Shruti’s on-screen ‘chemistry’ is said to be one of the highlights of the film. Both Shruti and Aiswaya have insisted in the past that the film has much more to offer to the viewers than the Kolaveri song.
Produced by Dhanush’s father Kasturi Raja, the film became immensely popular mainly because of YouTube which registered a record number of downloads of the above-said song. In his petition with the Court, Raja had said “The film has been produced at a huge budget and has elicited great excitement amid the fans and movie-goers. The immensely popular Kolaveri song has added an extra-dimension to the film which is releasing soon (30th March).
“We’re apprehensive that the film might be hit by video piracy and want legal protection against screening or releasing the film in various film-based websites on the Internet. We, therefore, request you to kindly protect our interests as producers and and pass ban order banning the release of the film on Internet and in CD/DVD versions.” Based on the petition, Justice Vasuki passed the order to the above-cited effect.
