Ban on Vijay’s Thuppakki title extended till August 22
For the fifth time, a Chennai Court has extended the ban on the makers of Vijay’s upcoming film Thuppakki from using the title on the posters and publicity stills. This time around, the ban has been extended upto the 22nd of this month, putting the producer and director in a quandary.
Starring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles, Thuppakki has been produced by Kalaipuli Thaanu and directed by A.R. Murugadoss and has been in the making for the past few months. The moment the film’s title designs were released, a producer named Ravidevan filed a case with the Court saying that the title belonged to him.
Ravidevan stated in his petition that he had registered the title Kallathuppakki with the Producers’ Council way back in 1999 itself and had further stated that as the design (logo) and the title has been allotted to him, the makers of the Vijay-starrer should be banned from using the title and the logo. The case has been going on for the couple of months.
Justice Thirumagal extended till 22nd Auigust the existing ban on the producer of Thuppakki from using the title and also directed the Produers’ Guild and the Film Chamber to submit to the Court a copy of the resolution regarding registration of titles of films which was passed in the year 1994-95.
