Thenniyindhiya Thirai Devadhaigal hosted by Madhavan and Arya
A programme on the eve of Ayudha Pooja which featured many top heroines of the years gone by. Heroines such as Banupriya, Suhasini and Revathy who ruled the roost in Tamil films in the eighties and nineties, took part and shared their rich experience in the programme hosted by actors Madhavan and Aarya, who starred together in Vettai which released in January this year.
Titled as Thenniyindhiya Thirai Devadhaigal (Angels of South Indian Films), the programme also had Radha, one of the most successful heroines in the eithties and nineties and who had starred opposite the likes of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijaykanth, Karthick, Prabhu and Sathyaraj in many films. Befitting the title of the programme, all the (ex) heroines looked pretty and appeared in dazzling costumes.
Along with the actresses who reigned in the bygone era, there were many contemporary actresses as well who gained the rich experience of hearing from those who had achieved a lot in films. Veteran director K. Balachander presented gifts to Revathi after which Maddy and Aarya got into ‘questioning’ mode and interviewed the actresses. To a query as to whom would the heroines opt for if they were to play the heroine (merely for fun, though!) now, Revathy smilingly said she’d prefere either Aarya or Madhavan or both.
Banupriya, who possessed an hourglass figure in her heydays, couldn’t control her tears of joy as Revathi reminisced those years and shared her thoughts about Banupriya. Radha, as witty and energetic as ever, named Gautham Karthick (the debutant hero of Maniratnam’s upcoming film Kadal) when asked as to who among the present crop of young actors she loved most as on-screen hero.
The presence of such a large number of past and present actresses in the programme and the novel way in which it was compered by Madhavan and Aarya made it all the more interesting indeed.
