Padma Shri For Sridevi This Year
Her announcement to do movies again were met with doubts. Sri Devi’s recently released movie English Vinglish that released as Aangilam Vaangilam in Tamil surely proved otherwise.
Her role as Shashi, a middle aged Maharashtrian house maker gathered many sentiments from the crowd as her onscreen husband and daughter took turns to repeatedly ridicule this ageless beauty for her broken English. Regardless, she pulled off a memorable performance as a mother of two.
Her character in itself symbolized a celebration of the spirit to never give up and those who walked out of the theatres looked more than satisfied that they were treated to a feel god movie. Crowning her efforts nationally, reports suggest the actress has been bestowed with the Padma Shri Award for the year. The award is the fourth highest civilian award next only to Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. Congrats Sri, you deserve every bit of it!
